Solo exhibition at the Courthouse Middelburg, Zeeland, The Netherlands.
This show is made side-specific, the installation consists of images found in and around the building. The atmosphere in a courthouse is quite strange. It is full of contrasts; guilty versus not guilty, light versus dark, open versus closed. My aim was to capture the same contrasts in the images shown. Because of the particular framing, it gives you a new insight in the building as you know it.

Beeldtaal: Rechtbank Middelburg
Bruno Slagboom (05/06/1992) studeerde aan de afdeling Fine Arts van de Hoge School voor de Kunsten Utrecht, waar hij in de zomer van 2015 afstudeerde. Tijdens deze studie deed hij een stage bij fotograaf Thijs Koelink van Studio Ayqido, waarmee hij nog steeds een warme (creatieve) band onderhoudt.
Bruno presenteert zich als een beeldenmaker die niet gebonden is aan een definitief medium. De afgelopen drie jaar heeft hij ervoor gekozen om het fotografisch medium in te zetten bij het creëren van een eigen beeldtaal. De huidige (beeld)taal vind de oorsprong in moderne architectonische waarden, uit zich in uitdagende presentaties en biedt uiteindelijk een nieuwe kijk op onze directe omgeving.
Een belangrijk aspect bij de presentatie in de Rechtbank is het willen creëren van een nieuwe werkelijkheid door middel van bestaande beelden. Alle gepresenteerde werken, zijn een optelling of samenvoeging van afbeeldingen afkomstig uit verschillende werkelijkheden. De beelden die u aantreft, zijn een van de vele dimensies die kunnen ontspringen bij het opnieuw interpreteren van de directe werkelijkheid om ons heen.
Bruno gelooft dat een fotografisch beeld een weergave is van een dimensie die alleen zichtbaar wordt wanneer er een kader omheen wordt gespannen. In dit geval is dat het kader van het fotografisch negatief. Zonder dit kader wordt je constant verzwolgen onder vele momenten die ieder an sich een nieuwe werkelijkheid kunnen openen.
De gepresenteerde beelden zijn in harmonie met de bijzondere lading die aanwezig is in het huis van vrouwe Justitia. Het is een plek van contrasten. Onschuld versus schuld, licht versus donker, open versus gesloten. Zo zijn ook de werken contrastrijk; in eerste instantie lijken ze gesloten, bij een tweede blik schijnt er vrijheid en een oneindigheid naar buiten.
Deze tentoonstelling is een uitnodiging om de werken, en daarmee de werkelijkheid, van Bruno binnen te lopen.

Solo exhibition at SBK-Zuid, Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
This show was in response to winning the Young Sprouts Award, given by SBK Amsterdam. This photographic installation is made specific for this exhibition space, the image fills up the whole wall and consists out of one piece. The image is shot at the phenomenal Liege-train station designed by Calatrava.
Thijs and I went to La Défense, Paris, in the summer of 2015. This site was chosen because of its concentrated modern architecture. After this journey we decided to make a exhibition out of the photographs, but it needed to be something different than flat pictures on the wall. We decided to literally put light behind the image by making them into light-boxes. We made small and big variants, the cases were made by Stefan Cammeraat from high quality wood.
The light-boxes have been on exhibition multiple times after this at various locations.

The last two years of my academic studies, I was mostly busy trying to think of fitting presentation methods for my work. With most of my works, bigger seems to be better.So I decided to go all out and print the images as big as possible. They consist of multiple strokes of the finest photo-paper available on this size. This resulted in a presentation where you could almost walk into my photographs. Accompanied with some smaller works, the transition from regular a regular photo presentation towards a photographic installation was complete.

Solo exhibition at 99Kuub, Utrecht.
This was made for the experimental exhibition space 99Kuub. With Tadao Ando in the back of my mind, I gave myself the goal to create a space where light was just as important as the image shown. The image appears to be floating, but is in fact mounted on a very heavy wooden construction, which is 'floating'. By choosing for a particular amount of light, this together creates a very calm situation. It has the same temple-feeling that the churches of Ando have. Almost spiritual.
The image itself is a digital composed image, printed on high quality photo-paper.
